About Sarah

Sarah Strachan and her boysSarah Strachan creates custom oil portraits. She uses her training in classic realism, layering rich oil paints on linen, to create a timeless piece of art. Her paintings are labor intensive; it is not unusual for Sarah to spend 40 hours on one painting. Inspired by your favorite photographs, Sarah seeks to create engaging compositions and dynamic portraits.

Sarah is fascinated by color and light and how it models the human form. She loves to capture the subtle effects of light and color on a face; the beautiful blues under a brow, a green hint in the hollow of a cheek. She is facinated by the unexpected abstract nature of color and light when it is truely observed and represented. As a mother, Sarah especially enjoys painting children, capturing their ever-evolving personalities in a single moment in time.

Sarah Strachan studied fine art portraiture at Gage Academy in Seattle and graduated Cum Laude as a Studio Art Major from Carleton College. She has had a career as a mutli-media artist and web developer, working for Stanford University and other Bay Area and Seattle organizations.

Sarah is currently a freelance painter and webdesigner. She lives with her husband and two boys in Seattle Washington. Call for a consultation and to see her works in person.
