H.B. FULLER FOUNDATION GRANT
WITH THE ASOCIACION ROBLEALTO
San Jose, Costa Rica 1993-1994
Executed by Sarah Strachan
From September 1993 through September 1994 I worked with the Associacion
Roblealto organizing an art program for 105 of their elementary school
students. I received support for the project from a H.B. Fuller Foundation
Grant. The program included teaching art to the students, training the
teachers to continue the art classes after I had left, and organizing
and creating community mural projects. The Associacion Roblealto is a
Christian organization that runs three day care centers in San Jose inner
city areas. They provide education, health services, mental health services
and food to the low income children whom they sponsor. I worked in the
three centers teaching seven classes to the eight through twelve year
old children. I also organized the students and teachers at each center
to complete one or more large outdoor murals.
Below you will find images from my experience teaching, as well as a
few examples of the murals that the children completed. Each photo has
several more underneath it. Feel free to scroll through them all by clicking
on the photograph itself.
Enjoy, Sarah
